Flint clay are a mixture of aluminum silicates.The main chemical constituents are Al₂O₃ and SiO₂, and the impurities are mainly alkali, alkaline soil, iron, titanium and other oxides, as well as some organic compounds.

All kinds of oxides play a role in melting, which can reduce the refractoriness of raw materials.Therefore, the lower the impurity content, especially the Na₂O+K₂O content, the higher the fire resistance.The closer the Al₂O₃/3SiO₂ ratio is to the theoretical value (A /S=0.85), the higher the purity of the gemstone is.The larger the A/S, the higher the fire resistance of the gemstone, the wider the sintering melting range.The chamotte refractoriness with high quality can reach more than 1750 ℃.
